Amateur Wine Making Competitions

Wine making has always been a competition, whether it's who has the hottest, trendiest wine or who sells the most of a certain variety.  We at Winexpert recognize this and have always strived to be the best wine kit company we can possibly be.  And now we want to encourage you, our consumer, to enter your Winexpert wines into competition against other amateur wine makers from all over the world.

We will be regularly updating this site to announce wine competitions and post the results.  If you have a local wine making competition you would like to see posted here, please email us at contact.us@winexpert.com.

2011 AWC Winexpert Results

The Amateur Winemakers of Canada (AWC), founded in 1971, is a national coordinating body for provincial amateur winemaking organizations. Its purpose is to promote the hobby of winemaking, and to increase the knowledge and skills of its individual members in making and evaluating wines and other fermented beverages. The principal activity of the AWC is a National Competition for amateur winemakers affiliated with its Provincial Member Organizations, held each summer. The AWC shares information about its competitions, including the results of recent AWC National Competitions as well as historical results and lifetime point totals on its web page*.

At present, six provincial organizations representing Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec make up the AWC. Contact information for clubs wishing to affiliate with the AWC can be found on the AWC web page*. The provincial organizations provide support and encouragement to local amateur winemaking clubs, host Provincial Competitions, and provide access to other services of interest to the amateur winemaker. All provincial organizations are eager to recruit new member clubs!

*The AWC web page is currently under construction, we will post the link as soon as it is available.

Annapolis Valley Vintners - Host of this year's AWNS Competition

Annapolis Valley Vintners was formed in 2004 when a few people who had previously belonged to other winemaking clubs decided that the time was right for a local club.

We are based in the Eastern end of Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley, near the Minas Basin. Our meetings are in Wolfville but members come from up and down the valley with some from the Halifax area, which is about 90 km (55 miles) away. We, along with Halifax Dartmouth Wine Circle, make up the Amateur Winemakers of Nova Scotia, which is a member of the Amateur Winemakers of Canada.

In 2008 and again in 2011, Annapolis Valley Vintners, on behalf of Amateur Winemakers of Nova Scotia, hosted the National Competition of Amateur Winemakers of Canada. It is expected that we will fill that role on a rotation basis every three or four years.
