It's a lovely fall day and we're off to the UBC Apple Festival at the botanical gardens at the University of British Columbia. As an organic gardener who loves working with heritage seeds and plants, I appreciate the work of people who are nurturing rare and wonderful things. There are over 200 different apples grown in the province, and there'll be at least sixty varieties available at the festival. I plan on buying a couple of dozen, not just for pie, but also because this time of year I eat at least five or six apples a day, usually sharing them with horrible cat #1, who has never heard that cats don't eat apples.
Who knows, I might even pick up a jug of their organic apple juice--there's a packet of yeast around here somewhere . . .
